Egg decorating
Last year during Holy week we attempted to make Pysanky Eggs. It was a disaster.
We had all the children spread around the kitchen table including the nearly 2 year old.
Have I mentioned that the virtue of Patience is not a quality in high quantities in our home.
Well, we had two Pysanky heating tools and 10 very impatient children. Not to mention a mother that has very real fears about the candles falling over and setting the house on fire.
Needless to say it was not a very successful day.
Tensions were running high and then when Autumn got the scarlet dye spilt all over her, the result being many tears and recriminations, that was the end of the egg dyeing.
So this year Eden and Vellvin were very keen to finish the eggs that they didn't do last year.
Being a little wiser this year I told them that the two of them could have a turn by themselves. (I don't know why I didn't think of it last year????)
Eden loved doing it and spent an entire afternoon dyeing the eggs. Vellvin had a go dyed a few eggs and moved on. Rogan also wanted to have a turn and did a couple as well.
After her experience last year Autumn said she would paint hers with regular paint. Of course this is when the younger ones showed up. Thinking cap on again, I told Autumn she could do her eggs first and then we would let the little ones try. (Super Smart hey?)
When Moran, Myffwyn and Corbyn painted their eggs, the paint that was in a contained area soon spread out to a wider circle of destruction, and all over them as well requiring the bath time routine to be moved up in the schedule.
After a couple of days of this the eggs look wonderful, the children had a lovely time and not too many eggs were broken.
I won't mention the lovely colours that are in some of our clothes now because the rag that was used to rest the drying, dyed eggs on went through the wash with the rest of the clothes.
Our next step now is to to make an Easter Egg Tree and put the painted and dyed eggs on the tree to put on the Easter Table on Easter Day.
Egg decorating is a big hit here too:) Smart thinking this year;)
