7 Quick Takes Friday 20th November

I decided I liked the idea of listing 7 things form the week that just happened and did not necessarily need to blog a whole post on.
AS my life seems so random and out of control at the moment that is what you get this week-- total random thoughts.

So for my 7 Quick takes this week:

1. Yesterday as I went to get our weekly ration of DVD's I was searching for something new that we hadn't seen before. As we are great Pride and Prejudice fans of the BBC version I thought we would try The 2005 Version
I seriously thought it inferior to The BBC Production.

It seemed the dialogue varied back and forth between period speech and modern day. There wasn't enough time for the character development and it just seemed well, hard to explain but ....too busy?
I am so glad it only cost 50 cents and I didn't take children to the movies to see it. None of our girls who love our BBC production liked it either.

2. Why is it when you leave washing out on the line overnight for the first time in months, obviously it hasn't rained in days, it not only rains but pelts down ranining. Enough to wake up sleeping children who then need to 'jocky for postion' in the bed with Mummy. Oh and of course soak all that lovely clean, dry washing.

3. It is funny how our older children can't remember life when they were younger. As I went to go shopping the other day our 5 younger children wanted to come with me. As I was feeling in a brave sort of mind I said yes, of course. Braedon they said well who is going to go with you out of the big kids. This was a problem as they were going to practise their music together. I said I would be fine that I didn't need anyone and they could do their practise.
Braedon then insisted that of course I needed some one to come and help with the little kids.
Obviously he doesn't remember talking all 8 of them when he was smaller.
Or perhaps he just doesn't think I can cope?

4. Speaking of cuddles in bed. I love, absolutely love when Arwen wakes up in the night and all she wants is to cuddle in our bed. She smiles and snuggles right in. I put my hand under her little head and she gives me that heart melting smile.
Bliss

5. We are finished "E" week on our Alphabet Path this week and it only took a week. Well I found it difficult to come up with lots of activities for E and both girls already knew how to write it so we finished today.
I wont mention that I am still writing the plans up for it on my Learning Blog and I haven't posted what we did in "D" week either and of course I need to do plans for "F" week.

6. Our Family is such a special blessing for me. Changes in our family are hard for me. Having Kynan go away for a job interview (which he thinks went well, but won't know until just before Christmas) has been hard for me.
The family dynamics change when someone is missing. Of course without Stephen here it has changed already. However my hope with that is that we will be re united soon. But I know as Kynan looks for work the time for him to leave our home comes closer and closer and while i would never stop our children from attaining their own goals, I am sad for how it changes our family.
Needless to say this is how God designed families. For children to be trained, loved and cared for in a family and to then leave to follow God's plans for their own lives.
Knowing this and living it are two different things I am finding.

7. As I plan for Advent I am thinking about something Erin said on the phone to me about Advent and looking at the Spiritual side of Advent.

As I am still planning and sharing I had to think, was I focusing on the material side and being busy doing, that we don't remember and and look at our Spiritual side.

I then thought about our Motto that we made as a banner many years ago ~
" We Watch, Wait and Prepare for the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ"

And I thought, yes, this is our focus each year. It is in doing these special Advent activities that we bring our Hearts, Hands and Minds to the knowledge that Jesus is our Lord and that we are trying day by day, hour by hour to live Holy and Saintly lives in imitation of His life on earth.

By spending time on Advent each year. We concentrate our whole lives on the gift of God that was given to us in the gift of a Baby boy- Our very own Jesus- born on Christmas day.
As we focus on this our own lives hopefully reflect that selfless and humble love as we live our daily lives according to his will.

Well that is all I have for this week. I Pray you all have a blessed and happy week.

  1. Hi Gae,

Glad to have visited you again. Well, I always do but just don't have much time to leave a comment.

My husband and I love Pride and Prejudice, too. (See my post today.) I totally agree with your comparison of both versions. I watched the BBC's thousand times already ;-)

    Love you family motto.

    Blessings to your family.

  2. Oh Gae,

Our oldest just moved out. He graduated (with honors!) from university last May, got a good job, (a gently used) new car, and is renting a house with a friend. It is bittersweet to watch them grow up and leave. I am so glad that I still have little ones in the house! And, that he is only living a few minutes away!

    Have a nice weekend. JMJ

  3. You are totally right about P&P. The other version is nothing compared to the BBc version.
