As part of "D" week we made Donuts and I thought I would share the recipe here as we make them from scratch.
This is a recipe I have used for over 10 years and never had a failure with it.
It is a sweet dough recipe and I also use it as a base for our Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday with the addition of fruit and a sweet glaze on top:
Ingredients ~
580ml of water
2 eggs
4 Tbs of butter or oil (I use oil)
2 Tsp of salt
4 Tbs of sugar
7 cups of Bread flour
6 Tbs of milk powder 4Tsp Bread improver
5 Tsp yeast
Method ~
Put everything into a bowl and knead either by hand or mixer until ready.
Turn out onto lightly floured surface and roll to about 1cm thick.
Cut out into rounds with a scone cutter or glass
Place a teaspoon ( we are more generous than that) of jam on one round and put the second one on top.
Squeeze edges together and place on greased tray.
Cover with plastic. NB: The best way we have found so they don't stick to the plastic is to cover with a supermarket shopping bag.
Let rise until doubled in size.
Cook donuts in hot oil , turn over for even cooking
Drain and then roll donuts in a mixture of white sugar and cinnamon
Eat while warm and Enjoy.
Rolled out dough
Pressing rounds together
Some rounds together and some with exposed jam
Sugar and Cinnamon mix
Risen doughnuts
Donuts in oil. I only do a couple at a time so they do not burn.
Draining on paper
Rolling in the sugar mix
A lovely bowl full of donuts
They don't last long!!!
Blessings,
They look delicious!
