A couple of months ago while reading one of my favourite blogs. I was inspired by this lovely new tradition of a Collective Family Journal. As I told the children about it they were inspired as well and wanted to start one of our own.
While our children are creative, they are not nearly as artistic as Kimberlee's children.
This is one of Moran's drawings - she is getting so much better at this now.
I have set this up in a place in the kitchen with a glass of coloured pencils and odds and ends. As the mood strikesthem, as they walk by, someone will write a favourite quote, a snippet of a song or something they have been talking about.
Also feast days are recorded as well as some doodling and fine drawings and water colours.
I love seeing what inspires the children at the moment and have even added little tidbits myself. I am so not an artist!
Thank you Kimberlee and family for the creative spark and sharing it with us.
I am sure we will look back with fond memories at this special gift.
I did have other copies as well with more detailed drawings but can't seem to find them on the computer file!

I think this is one of the best ideas I have ever seen! Wow! Thank you for the inspiration!!! I really want to do this with my children and our little family. Great idea!!!
What a really great idea, we may just have to do this too!
I love journals that record thoughts and art. Great idea!

that's a very nice family transition idea, and i see your children are enjoying it! great artistic drawings of dinos and crabs and black belts. I also enjoyed reading your last post -- it's a beautiful tradition-filled glimpse into your family Easter celebration. thanks for sharing.
How fun that you started one too! Isn't it delightful to see what the children come up with? We have plenty of 'drawings' and 'writing' from the little ones in ours too. It's also nice that Dad can sit down to read it once in a while to catch up on 'things'. (ps I think I forgot to tell you I didn't get your email. We seem to have major email communication problems?!?)
What a beautiful idea! I'm going to have to start one for our family.
Thank you for sharing.
(I found your blog via the Mega Family Blog Roll)
Blessings to you!
Hi Gae
Thank you for your kind words and prayers. I will keep you in my prayers that you will sell your house.
It must be so hard for you being apart from your husband. That is the thing about Australia -it is such a big country!- something that struck us when we were there a few years ago. I have a dear friend in Sydney and we visited Victoria too for a few days, but we didn't make it as far as Tasmania.
I love all your ideas for Easter and the journal is lovely too. How do you fit it all in? I only have 2 little fellas and I never seem to have enough time!
God bless you and your family
Kee
Hello Gae,
Your journals will be something to treasure and eventually pass on to your children. Don't forget to jot down your families favourite recipes here and there. When they are older they'll look back and remember them fondly I'm sure. Thankyou for visiting my blog. I'm really quite inept when it comes to pictures and such, but one day when I have time I'll work out how to get some pictures of my stitching on my blog.
Blessings Gail
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment and prayer for my sweet Brandon-PTL we found out it is not cancer but he is going to have extensive surgery this Tuesday the 20th on his hip. If you think of it say a prayer for him on (and me-lol) on Tuesday. Thanks again.
I am sorry to hear about you daughter-My daughter is dealing with some issues in school-what were your daughter's symptoms? What did you do to have her tested? I am interested because they never really found something with Alyssa except that she deals with short term memory issues-but I wonder if that is correct? What are you having to do to help her?
Thanks for letting me me know about this.
I will keep you in my prayers as you are on this journey.
Blessings
Jill

I'm glad you enjoyed visiting my blog, Gae. When my oldest was 20 we had the youngest, so it sounds like our 11 children are spaced about the same. I like your journal idea. When my children were homeschooling I had them keep a daily journal and it's fun to go back and read them. Our 10th child, Julie, always started hers with, Dear Mom, I love you so much. She's 17, now, and we still reflect back on those days. Blessings.
