Our Madi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday celebrations mostly consisted of making masks and running errands again. As we have not had our big van (still in the fixing shop) I have been borrowing Braedon's car to run around in, needless to say as good as this is it limits the people who can come with me and thus leads to different challenges for those left at home with the older kids.
I unlike our felt masks we made two years ago, we decided we needed to keep it simple again due to the many obligations we had this week.
So I searched around on line for simple printed out shapes of masks to print, colour and then to stick straws on or elastic backs to hold masks on and the children then went to it.
The only other thing I did was to buy cheap paper plates for designing and cutting out an original design mask. These were actually quite a hit and Arwen insisted on a crocodile mask which Eden had to draw on to a paper plate.
The materials to decorate were simply colouring pencils, crayons and those cool tempera paints we used last week
Corbyn designed and cut out his mask. I just don't know what he wanted it to be though.
These were Arwen's masks and she carried them around all day.
Saxon was the only one who did not participate as he was trying to fix the CD drive on the computer.
Just because I love the masks the children made AND this is all we did for the day. I am going to subject you to a lot of Madi Gras mask pictures, until you reach the bottom of this post :)
Well, fuzzy picture or not this is our FAT TUESDAY food:
Bacon and Eggs with.........
Buckwheat Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Maple Syrup and Cream.
And so that is the end of the 'Carnival period' in our home just before Lent and we look forward to a very productive and spiritual Lent.
