Homemade Electrolyte MIx for Sick children
Somehow we picked up a vomiting and diarrhea bugs and we had lots of sick little children for the entire week.
Seriously it was not getting better for days and we had children not eating and more importantly trying to drink and then either vomiting or needing to go 'real quick' to the bathroom, that I was in a state of perpetual motion.
I was pretty concerned about the children dehydrating and I do find they really are not that keen to drink much at all during these rare times of illness either.
I did not want to find us up at the hospital again and so kept giving the children plenty of English Breakfast Tea with a little milk and stevia.
This worked well but I wanted to give them something more and then I thought of an electrolyte drink like the ones you buy at chemists and other places.
So I went looking for one that I had the ingredients for at home and yet did not have all the added and non essential additives that the bought ones have.
This is what I came up with and it really helped the children, they started to keep the fluids down more and they also improved dramatically.
So this is what I did~
1. In a large jug dissolve 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of sea salt, NOT table salt but sea salt, (we use Celtic Sea Salt in everything) and 1/3 cup of raw honey in 3/4 cup of very hot water.
2. Next add the juice from a few lemons or as we did 1/3 cup of lemon juice from a bottle we keep on hand.
3. Add three more cups of water and stir
That's it so simple and quick and best of all easy to prepare.
And now all you need do is give to your sick little ones.
Go on they will love the taste and be happy to keep sipping away.
In fact I got more requests for drinks once I started making this and not only form the sick ones either.
