Michaelmass 2010


Well for this year in our home we had planned on doing most things as we did last year.

Well we spent a fair bit of time on our Play that I made a slide show of (please have a look the kids really enjoyed it). They really wanted to do another one because they loved doing the one we did last year, see it here.
We do enjoy these plays and dressing up.

Because we spent lots of time on preparing and executing the play we didn't get to the crafts I had planned so we really only did this and the food and later the colouring pages below.

Our colouring of course comes from Charlotte St Gabriel, St Michael and St Raphael we also love  Vee's St Michael that can be used for each Angel too.
This year our strudel was made by Vellvin for the first time and we used plums instead of blackberries, plums seeing in the pantry and blackberries no where to be seen.
We had Devils Food cake and I made some spears out of skewers.
Just break one skewer in half and wrap around another full length one with wool and presto a sword for the cake.
The children overcame their aversion to this of last year and had quite  an interesting time stabbing the cake......multiple times.
As you can see older ones were in on the act too.
Um yes Corbyn (above) and Arwen in this photo were climbing on the table to give it their best effort.

We did have Apple Chicken (double the recipe) again with Angel Hair Pasta and honey carrots and cauliflower too
Apple Chicken

6 skinless chicken thighs
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
2 cups apple juice
1/3 cup dijon mustard
3 apples -- unpeeled, cored & sliced 1/2" thick
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup sliced green onions
2 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water

Heat oil in large skillet. Brown chicken over medium-high heat. Season with salt and pepper. Combine apple juice and mustard; pour over chicken. Cover; cook over medium-low heat for 45 minutes. Add apples, raisins and green onions. Cover; Cook 5-10 minutes longer. Place chicken and apples on a serving platter; keep warm. Gradually stir combined cornstarch and water into cider liquid. Cook and stir until thickened.
We had a little problem with over cooking on one batch (we cooked in two batches) but it was still edible and quite lovely. In fact I think we will use this more often through the year.

Gae, the play was wonderful! The costumes were great and the littlest angel sure is cute. I liked the weapons of "mass destruction". :-) I know your children will remember these plays you all do forever. It's such a fun way to learn.
The plum strudel looks good, and thanks for the recipe!
