I was given a lovely gift recently which is a 'Bread and Bun Warmer,' it is a lovely round porcelain plate that you warm to keep your bread warm as you serve it up.
On the back of the wrapping it had these remarkable saying about bread that I would like to share with you. It says ~
BREAD: The symbol of Friendship and Hospitality
Legend and Lore: In ancient times many cultures believed bread was a Gift from God.
And so we have each nationality summarised in these words~
ENGLISH: 'Bread is the Staff of Life'
RUSSIAN: 'Bread is the symbol of friendship'
SPANISH: 'All sorrows are less with bread'
ITALIAN: 'Bread is all food, the rest is merely accompaniment'
GERMAN: ' Bread is the symbol of home and family'
FRENCH saying: 'As good as bread'
DANISH: 'Bread is better than the song of the birds'
SLAVIC PROVERB: Without bread even a palace is sad, but with it a Pine Tree is Paradise'
AMERICAN INDIANS dance the 'Bread Dance; for prosperity and good crops.
Typically in more ancient culture bread truly was the staple of a diet and did mean 'Hearth and Home.'
It was what you could offer those whom you welcomed into the home, whether returning family or a guest for a time.
So in our society we need to see 'bread' perhaps not just being a food source but a way of sharing our lives with those around us and welcoming into our homes those within our sphere and then simply sharing the simple act of......BREAD.
Blessings to you and your homes,
