This is what I do to start Morning Circle Time with our
children:
Stock a large basket with everything needed for the day’s
circle-time activities. To signal little ones to join you in the circle-time
area, grab your basket and sing the following song.
Gathering Verse:
(sung to the tune of “A
Tisket, a Tasket”)
A tisket, a tasket,
Mummy has her basket.
It’s time for all my
little ones
To join me on the carpet.
Prayer:
God be in my head, and in
my understanding.
God be in my eyes, and in
my looking.
God be in my mouth, and in
my speaking.
God be in my heart, and in
my thinking.
God be at my end, and at
my departing.
Candle Lighting Verse:
Trying this for candle
lighting using the first and last with
the two lines for each month and of course I have changed the months to reflect our Southern
Hemiphere seasons J
The Crowning of the Year
Poem by Juliet Compton-Burnett
The months weave a garland
to crown the year,
Its jewels are the leaves
and the flower
The golden sun and twinkling
stars
The wind and the snow and
the showers
Colour and beauty from far
and near
Weaving a garland to crown
the year
July brings the snow
But hark, the root begin
to grow
August brings flowers of
light
Petals three of snowdrops
white
September’s blossoms-
purple, gold
Six petals to the sun
unfold
October’s here, gold
trumpets sound
And star of white bedeck
the ground
November is the month of
pink and white
Apple, may, and Parsley
light
December brings flowers of
rainbow hue
Crimson, gold and heavenly
blue
Flowers gay we still may
see
Though dark the green on
January’s tree
Yellow turn the field of
grain
In February sun and
February rain
March’s fruit grow good to
see
On pear and plum and apple
tree
April’s leaves come
fluttering down
In shades of gold and red
and brown
May’s gift is rich and
rare
The beauty of the branches
bare
June’s joy in each heart
glows
For then we trim the
beautiful rose (variation here for SH)
Colour and beauty from far
and near
Weaving a garland to crown
the year
Opening Verse:
We are truthful and
helpful, And loving in trust.
For our heart's inner sun,
Glows brightly in us.
We will open our hearts,
To the sunbeams so bright,
And we'll fill all the
world, With our heart's inner light.
Seasonal Verse:
In the Springtime by
Clifford Monks
In the springtime bunny
rabbits go hop hop
In the sunshine little
birdies go chirp chirp
Daisies nod to daffodils
Little children run up
hills
and fall down in the
springtime
Little Brown Seeds-
Little brown seeds so
small and round,
Are sleeping quietly under
ground.
Down come the raindrops
sprinkle, sprinkle,
sprinkle.
Out comes the rainbow,
twinkle, twinkle, twinkle.
Little brown seeds way
down below,
Up through the earth they
grow, grow, grow.
Little green leaves come
one by one.
They hold up their heads
and look at the sun.
Wee garden plot-
This is my wee garden
plot.
I'll rake it with care and
it will grow a lot!
Peas and carrots and salad
from seeds.
I'll plant and water and
pull out the weeds.
The sun will shine and
bathe my garden in light,
all the plants will be
happy and taste just right.
Here, try some, have a
bite!
Wake little leaves-
Wake, little leaves,
For the Springtime is
calling you;
Soft blow the breezes
And warm is the sun;
Wake, little leaves,
For the Springtime has
come at last;
Wake, little leaves,
For the Springtime has
come!
Seasonal Songs:
Little Maiden-
I am coming, little
maiden,
With the pleasant sunshine
laden;
With the honey for the bee,
With the blossom for the
tree,
With the flower and with the
leaf;
Till I come the time is
brief.
I am coming, I am coming,
Hark! The little bee is
humming;
See, the lark is soaring
high
In the bright and sunny sky;
And the gnats are on the
wing;
Little maiden, now is
spring.
Little Bird-
I can see a mama bird flying
to her nest
Feeding all her little ones
then they take a rest
She spreads her wings to
keep them warm,
And to guard them from all
harm
Wings to shelter from the
sun
Even the wriggly littlest
one!
Wings to dry them from the
rain
Yes, little birds. it's Spring
again
Spring is Coming-
Spring is coming, Spring is
coming,
Birdies build your nests.
Weave together twig and
feather,
Each on doing their best.
Spring is coming, Spring is
coming,
Flowers are waking too,
Daisies, lilies,
daffodillies,
Now are coming through.
Spring is coming, Spring is
coming,
All around is fair,
Shimmer, glimmer on the
meadow,
Joy is everywhere.
Action Verses/Songs:
A house for Robin-
This is a house for a
robin
(make a nest with hands)
This is a hive for a bee
(two fists together to
make a hive)
This is a hole for a bunny
(thumbs and pointers on
both hands to make hole)
And this is a house for
me!
(Arms and hands form roof
overhead)
Here is a Bunny-
Here is a bunny with ears
so funny (hold one hand face up and with other hand have fingers hop up and
down)
Here is his hole in the
ground (join thumb and index finger to make O)
At the first sound he
hears
He pricks up his ears
(hold up index finger and middle finger to make V)
And jumps to his hole in
the ground. (V jumps into O)
Little Chickadees-
(use fingers for each
chick)
Five little chicadees,
Peeping at the door;
One flew away,
And then there were four.
Chickadee, Chickadee,
happy and gay,
Chickadee, Chickadee, fly
away!
Four little chickadees,
Sittting on a tree;
One flew away,
And then there were three.
Chickadee, Chickadee,
happy and gay,
Chickadee, Chickadee, fly
away!
Three little chickadees,
Looking at you;
One flew away,
And then there were two.
Chickadee, Chickadee,
happy and gay,
Chickadee, Chickadee, fly
away!
Two little chickadees,
Sitting in the sun;
One flew away,
And then there was one.
Chickadee, Chickadee,
happy and gay,
Chickadee, Chickadee, fly
away!
One little chickadee,
Left all alone;
He flew away,
And then there were none.
Chickadee, Chickadee,
happy and gay,
Chickadee, Chickadee, fly
away!

Poetry:
Spring Rain - M. T.
Schunemann from Sing a Song of Seasons
Pitter patter, pitter
patter, listen to the rain
Knocking on the window
sill and on the window pane
Slowly creeping snail, the
grass the flowers the grain
The birds up in the
treetops
The frogs upon his lilly
pad
Gree-dip gree-dip,
gree-dip
And the children love the
rain
Splashing in puddles
Splashy, splashy, wet
Splashing in the puddles
How wet can we get
All the earth loves the
rain
Pitter patter, pitter
patter
Listen to the rain
Pitter patter, pitter
patter
Pitter patter, pitter
patter
The sun comes out again
Twitter Twitter-
Now we know that winter’s
done,
For a troop of swallows
come,
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
Oh, they are sweet pretty
things!
Flying round with rapid
wings,
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
The swallow knows no other
tune,
But always sings to May
and June,
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
In the barn she builds her
nest,
In the corner she likes
best,
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
See! She took a hair just
now,
From the back of Moolly
cow.
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
If the sheep should drop
some wool,
She will give it many a
pull;
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
From the hen she gets a
feather,
And she weaves the whole
together;
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
But when her little ones
can fly,
They bid us all a kind
good-bye;
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere,
Swallows come with the
first spring day,
And with summer they go
away;
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
Poor little swallows have
to go;
They do not like the frost
and snow;
They could not twitter in
the air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
But when spring comes with
sun and rain,
The swallows will come
back again;
Twitter, twitter, in the
air,
Twitter, twitter,
everywhere.
The Sun is shining-
The sun is shining
brightly;
The birds begin to sing;
And everything is ready
For the coming of the
Spring.
The trees’ brown buds are
swelling;
They soon will burst their
sheath,
In tender green excelling
Even the grass beneath.
The sky is blue, and
birdies
Fly swiftly to and fro;
The farmer, in his
cornfields,
Begins his seed to sow.
And then the flowers say
softly,
“Wake up! We shall be
late!
The cows are in the pasture,
And Baby’s at the gate.
For Baby’s rosy fingers
Do love the flowers so!
Dear Earth, you must not
keep us,
For it is time to blow.”

Our time for now has ended

Wisdom, love, and freedom
will grow

To be to others kind and

To grow more loving every

Quiet Time (or bedtime)Verse:
Now the sun has gone to
bed,
The stars are shining
overhead.
In their nests the birds
all sleep,
Into their homes the
snails will creep.
Children now no more will
roam,
It’s rest time now and
we’re safe in our home.
**************************************************
Come to bed my little
lamb,
The time for play is gone,
The Sleep Night Queen
beckons us to bed
So put your jammies on I
can hear her gentle voice,
Come on now sleepy-head,
I've some happy dreams for
you,
When you're safe in bed
***************************************************
(Child’s Name) A star for
you to wish on,
A sun so warm and bright,
A moon for you to sleep
on,
Happy dreams, A kiss
goodnight.
**********************************************
The lady moon up yonder
Is like a silver boat
Upon the dark blue ocean
All silently afloat
And when the fairies waken
They climb the moonbeams
white
And far across the heavens
go
Sailing in the night
When I go to sleep at
night
An angel watches over me
And fills me with a golden
light
And takes me to the stars
so bright
And blesses me each
morning
Four corners to my bead
Four angels around my head
One to watch and two to
pray
And one to keep all fear
away
