Autumn Fires!!

We have been quite busy with our Learning at Home these last weeks.
One of the joys I have is watching our children  learn poetry.
We have tea time on Friday  and a chance to share what they have learned in many ways but the part I love is hearing the poetry.

Some of the first poems I start the children on is R.L. Stevenson and it is a delight to read them but also one of my favourite books with them is This one which is also illustrated by Tasha Tudor but I also have this one from my childhood which is illustrated by Eloise Wilkins.

One of the first poems I give the children is Autumn Fires and of course I could not let this Autumn season rush by without having our youngest ones learn it as well.

It is with utter satisfaction that I listen to the older children who learnt these poems years ago start to recite them as they hear the younger children practice.

As I  share this delicious poem with I would invite you to have a beautiful tea cup and sit and relax as you read this poem or even more of  these  poems as we enjoy the simple pleasures of poetry and warm drinks in this most beautiful season of Autumn.

Autumn Fires- Robert Lewis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,

Fires in the fall!
Blessings to you and your homes,

One of my daughter's favorite poems; she learned it last year for her homeschool co-op. And such a beautiful poem for autumn!
