Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe 2010

Well there has been so much happening this week, that I am so late sharing how we celebrated Our Lady of Guadalupe this year.
However it is one of our family's favorite feast days and the children even though it may have been a bit of a more intense day would not miss it for the world (well except Kynan who is away and missed a great day).
AS we tend to have a Mexican theme happening we changed our usual Sunday Lunch Menu after Mass and had Burritos. A fairy basic version I am sure.
Mince filling for the burritos with lettuce, tomato, cheese, sour cream and taco sauce.
After lunch our little people did some of the colouring pages I had linked to in my Planning Post
It started with Myffy, then Arwen came along.
Corbyn wanted to be a part of it too.
It was really lovely to see our boy concentrating for a longer period of time.
 "Wow I love colouring"
Moran finally arrived to join in the colouring
These are the books we own about this feast day, My favourite is the little Father Lovasik book in front.
I didn't get to read them all but spent the last minutes before bedtime reading this to our little ones. It was lovely and Moran fell asleep against my arm and Arwen in my lap as we finished.
Autumn making ham roses
Because we also celebrated Gaudete Sunday as well it was a pretty full day for us.
In the afternoon while the little ones were colouring or just playing the older children and I started our tradition of Our Lady of Guadalupe Tea as first shared with us by Alice.
For the full story of the meanings of the food items please visit her lovely post about them.
These are our "The Mantle of Stars"~ I used fruits sticks cut up into small pieces as star shapes are really hard to find
Our children love this one "Crushed Serpents" ~ of course the fact they are yummy snake lollies has nothing to do with it. It was so funny to see Corbyn crushing his with such enthusiasm. He was already to step on it with his shoe BUT I told him he wouldn't be able to eat it then so it repeatedly crushed ditit with his glass until satisfied.
"St. Juan Diego's Sombrero"~ made from pringles and cheese sticks and olives cut up.
These are quite a favourite
"Build me a Church"~ made with chocolate ripple biscuits, chocolate cream and an ice cream cone.
Rogan was very keen to be the one to make these. Some have more cream holding them together than others, but all were very much eaten with enthusiasm.
The roses Autumn had made from the ham. She is so good at this, I am simply terrible- they don't stay how I make them. Thank goodness for other talents in the home.
These are our "tilma's" that have been cut out of Burrito pads as we call  them.
The roses go on top and you roll them up to hide the roses. Thus it becomes "The Tilma of Roses"
Our " Roses from Heaven Punch"~ this was so delicious! Soda water with raspberry cordial and cut up strawberries.
"Crescent Moons"~ normally I use bought croissants but they were nowhere to be seen so I bought some pre packaged picklets and cut them into moon shapes. Not quite as yummy but they represented the image nicely.
"Praying Hands"~ wholemeal bread with cream cheese in the middle and then cut into mitten shapes.
"Bishop Zumarraga's Miter"~ Once again I used the pre-packaged piklets, cut out into shape and piped on a red icing cross.
Well here it all is just waiting to be eaten. Arwen was all ready before anyone else.

In the front is our "Aztec Chocolate" ~ I forgot to take it individually.
A close up of how we tried to decorate the table as well.
And of course the view form the other end of the table!
Once we got Stephen and Saxon inside from the garage we did get a chanced to eat , but not before Arwen and some others had already sampled the delicious meal.

I pray you all enjoyed your own feast days as well!!

Remember, O most gracious Virgin of Guadalupe, that in your apparitions on Mount Tepeyac you promised to show pity and compassion to all who, loving and trusting you, seek your help and protection.
Accordingly, listen now to our supplications and grant us consolation and relief. We are full of hope that, relying on your help, nothing can trouble or affect us. As you have remained with us through your admirable image, so now obtain for us the graces we need. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe pray for us!!

Blessings to you and your homes,
